Chlortetracycline hydrochloride is a broad-spectrum tetracycline antibiotic effective against Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria, as well as Rickettsia, Chlamydia, Mycoplasma, spirochetes, Actinomyces, and certain protozoa.

It is primarily used in poultry for the prevention and treatment of chronic respiratory disease and colibacillosis. It shows strong efficacy against Gram-positive bacteria such as Staphylococcus, Bacillus anthracis, Streptococcus hemolyticus, Clostridium tetani, and other Clostridium species, as well as Gram-negative bacteria including Escherichia coli, Salmonella, Brucella, and Pasteurella.
